The next Starship vehicles will perform Raptor static fires and short hops around 150 meters altitude. A Starship test article is expected to make a 20 km hop in the coming months, and Elon aspires to an orbital flight of a Starship with full reuse by the end of 2020. SpaceX continues to focus heavily on development of its Starship production line in Boca Chica, TX. Previous Threads:

Starship, serial number 1 (SN1) began its testing campaign at SpaceX's Starship facility in Boca Chica, Texas, working toward Raptor integration and static fire. Its tank section was destroyed during pressurized cryogenic testing late on February 28, local time. Construction of SN2 had already begun and it was converted to a test tank which was successfully pressure tested with a simulated thrust load. Later builds are expected in quick succession and with aggressive design itteration. A Starship test article is expected to make a 20 km hop in the coming months, and Elon aspires to an orbital flight of a Starship with full reuse by the end of 2020. Over the past few months the facilities at Boca Chica have seen substantial improvements including several large fabric buildings and a "high Bay" for stacking and welding hull sections. Raptor development and testing continue to occur at Hawthorne and on three test stands at McGregor, TX. Future Starship production and testing may occur at Roberts Road, LC-39A, SpaceX's landing complex at Cape Canaveral, Berth 240 at the Port of LA, and other locations. Previous Threads:

Starship development is currently concentrated at SpaceX's Starship Assembly Site in Boca Chica, Texas, where preparations for the first Starship Version 1 build (SN1) are underway. Elon hopes this article will fly in the spring of 2020. The Texas site has been undergoing a pivot toward the new flight design which will, in part, utilize a semi clean room welding environment and improved bulkhead manufacturing techniques. Starship construction in Florida is on hold and many materials, components and equipment there have been moved to Texas. Currently under construction at Kennedy Space Center's LC-39A are a dedicated Starship launch platform and landing pad. Starhopper's Texas launch site was modified to handle Starship Mk.1 and a larger Superheavy capable mount is expected to be built on the previously undeveloped east side of the property. At SpaceX's McGregor Texas site where Raptor is tested there are three operational test stands, and a fourth is reportedly planned for SpaceX's Cape Canaveral landing complex. Elon mentioned that Raptor SN20 was being built near the end of January. Previous Threads:

Starship development is currently concentrated at SpaceX's Starship Assembly Site in Texas. Until mid November, the Starship development teams had been focusing on finishing the Mark 1 and 2 vehicles which were expected to make suborbital test flights. The Mark 1 testing campaign ended on November 20 with a catastrophic failure of the methane tank during pressurized testing. In a statement from SpaceX after the incident it was announced that the decision had already been made not to fly these vehicles, and that development will now focus on the orbital Mark 3 design. Starship development in Florida has been put on hold and it is unclear what will become of Mark 2. Launch mounts for the Starship prototypes are in the works. Starhopper's Texas launch site was modified to handle Starship Mk.1, and at Kennedy Space Center's LC-39A, a dedicated Starship launch platform and landing pad are under construction. SpaceX has not recently indicated what sort of flight test schedule to expect for Mark 3. Starship is powered by SpaceX's Raptor, a full flow staged combustion cycle methane/oxygen rocket engine. Sub-scale Raptor test firing began in 2016, and full-scale test firing began early 2019 at McGregor, Texas, where there are two operational test stands, and a third is under construction. Eventually, Starship will have three sea level Raptors and three vacuum Raptors. Super Heavy may initially use around 20 Raptors, and operational versions could have around 31 to 37 sea level Raptors. Previous Threads:

SpaceX is developing Starship at their Starship Assembly Site in Texas, and also at their facilities in Cocoa, Florida. The teams at the two locations are in competition with each other, but are also required to share insights learned along the way. Following Starhopper, the first two Starship prototypes, Mark 1 and Mark 2, are nearing completion. These vehicles will have aerodynamic control surfaces and three engines each, and are expected to make suborbital test flights. Ring sections believed to be for a Starship Mark 4 prototype are being built in Cocoa, and both sites will be iterating through successive versions of Starship and Super Heavy as quickly as possible. JUMP TO COMMENTS|SPADRE WEBCAM|LABPADRE WEBCAM The Starhopper is a low fidelity prototype of SpaceX's next generation space vehicle, Starship. Representing the lower third of a Starship, the hopper has relatively small propellant tanks, and one Raptor engine. Initial construction took place at SpaceX's Starship Assembly site in Boca Chica, Texas and ongoing Starhopper development and testing are taking place at their privately owned Starship Launch Pad and Starship Landing Pad just down the road. The Starhopper testing campaign began at the end of March 2019 and will be complete following the 150 meter hop in August. Competing builds of higher fidelity "Orbital Prototypes" are currently under construction at SpaceX's Starship Assembly site in Texas and at the Coastal Steel facilities in Cocoa, Florida. These vehicles will eventually carry the testing campaign further, likely testing systems such as thermal protection and aerodynamics. Both orbital prototypes are expected to make suborbital flights, and possibly orbital flights as well. A planned, dedicated Starship launch platform at LC-39A, may serve either or both of these vehicles. Construction of a prototype Super Heavy booster is expected to begin in Florida soon. Testing of the Orbital Prototypes could begin in late summer or fall of 2019.
