I don't know what to title this, so I'll just go with "Arcade Weirdness". XD (Okay to share!)
(Not sure what permissions are required, but this is totally okay to share on a future episode if you guys would like. I would honestly love it if you do!) ^_^ After falling behind a whole bunch after you guys switched to weekly episodes, I finally managed to get around to sort of binging a lot so I could finally catch back up. As such, I heard a bunch of viewer stories, and was reminded of a strange event (one of the few) of my own that I figured I would put out there and see what people's thoughts are on it. I'd first like to preface this story with an important personal note by saying that I am a staunch Catholic and am very much in the Jesse camp of skepticism and just complete disbelief when it comes to paranormal/supernatural stuff, and will forever maintain that what happened to me has a logical explanation to it, even if I'll never be sure what that explanation is. "^_^ As a bit of important background info, I currently just turned 30 years old this past July (I'm officially old now. T~T) . My family annually vacations in Lake Tahoe California/Nevada ever year in August and has done so for the past ~20 years, since it's the best time for hiking as there's no snow on the mountains and the melting snow makes the numerous lakes & rivers as full and lively as possible. In the evenings, it has always been extremely common for us to head across the state-line to the Harrah's casino for some evening gambling at the video poker machines at the bar and some Blackjack or Pai Gow table games, but me and my two brothers (one older by about 3 years, one younger by about 2 years) would instead frequent the arcade at the Harvey's hotel/casino just across the street where we would play while our parents gambled. (As a dumb aside, in this arcade there is also a claw machine filled with just colored ducks that I tweeted out with the whole SGS tagged with the hashtag #DucksForDavis back in 2018 that Jesse liked, and I'll always be so happy for that, so thank you Jesse. That made my day. ^_^) A tourist pamphlet book of coupons that we would get from our time-share gave us an additional $5.00 or so in tokens for cashing in $20.00, and this arcade offered a redemption prize of $5.00 in tokens in exchange for 500 tickets. This particular arcade also had a baseball themed timing-based ticketing game that would give you 3 plays per token and would pitch a slow, medium, and fast "pitch" that you had to time on the Jackpot light that would give [at a minimum] 25, 50, and 100 tickets respectively that would only increase upon more unsuccessfully attempts. Over the years of us playing that game, my brothers became good enough at it to the point where it was VERY easy to exploit and win significantly more than in $5.00 in tickets. For example, we would often win double-that or more by earning 1000+ or 1500+ tickets per every $5.00, so we essentially paid $20.00 up front and played for free the rest of our trip and would get the best prizes every couple of years after accruing enough tickets (we managed to get a Wii one year at ~20k tickets as I recall). So basically, we never had to actually spend any money at this arcade to play or win anything. I was never particularly good at this game myself, so I would most often just stand around and watch them exploit this clearly unbalanced game and proceed to play other games that I enjoyed after we had enough tickets in surplus to exchange. I don't remember exactly when this particular event happened since all these trips have basically blurred together in my head, but one time within the last 10 years (I want to say 7 ago or so but that's really just a guess), I was standing next to this ticketing machine while they were playing like normal. There is an airhockey table just to the right of this game, and at the time we were playing I distinctly remember 2 teenage boys aggressively playing while I just watched my brothers exploit this ticketing game. At a certain point, I just remember feeling SOMETHING strike me extremely hard and fast across my right temple and I immediately dropped to the ground. Like I straight-up just collapsed and slumped to the ground, clutching the side of my head in pain. My initial thought was that the airhockey puck had accidentally gotten hit into the air and hit me and that was what I felt. When I dropped to the ground, my brothers were very visibly concerned about what had happened to me and stopped what they were doing to make sure that I was okay. I slowly stood up from my knees, rubbing the side of my head vigorously to help alleviate some of the pain, insisting that something had just hit me but that I was okay but was just hit by an airhockey puck. But when I glanced over to look at the airhockey table to the right of the game cabinet, I don't remember seeing anyone at the table and there was no evidence of any stray puck anywhere on the ground, and I had no lasting damage/pain/bruise on my head from this supposed 'hit' I took. It basically appeared that I was struck in the side of my head by nothing and I dropped to the ground randomly for no reason with no indication that anything had physically damaged me. Because it happened so long ago and none of us REALLY paid attention to what had occurred or happened, neither me or my brothers can really remember all the exact details such as if anyone was playing airhockey that night or if anyone was at the table after I supposedly got hit by the flying puck, so I tend to take all of this with a grain of salt. I certainly don't believe it was anything supernatural or paranormal, but it was certainly a bizarre occurrence that stands out in my memory to this day. Anyways! That's it. ^_^ Not something SUPER bizarre, and I don't believe that anything unexplainable, paranormal, or supernatural occurred that day, and I've never experienced anything like it since. I'm absolutely certain there's an explanation for what happened, even if it's just me mentally experiencing this for seemingly no reason, but I'm curious and interested to hear people's thoughts.
Junk bonds are bonds issued by companies with poor credit ratings, such as CCC, as opposed to investment-grade bonds that are issued by companies with a AAA credit rating.
1957 = wrote a letter to President Eisenhower saying he wanted to lead the nation into space.
1968 = graduated from the University of Berkeley magna cum laude with a degree in finance.
1969 = gets married to his high school sweetheart.
1970 = receives an MBA from Wharton Business school, according to Milken he had the highest grades ever achieved at the school. Starts working for an investment firm called Drexel that would soon merge and be known as Drexel Burnham.
1976 = made $5 million ($23 million in 2020 dollars) from Drexel Burnham.
1977 = buys his current home in Encino, California that cost $587,500 (over $2.5 million in 2020 dollars). 7 bedrooms. over 7,000 square feet. Milken and the Drexel Burnham firm began to underwrite junk bonds.
1978 = moved his trading desk from New York to his hometown of Los Angeles, bringing about 20 traders with him. Milken stayed on the NYC schedule while in Los Angeles, waking up at 3am and working from 4:30am to 7:30pm.
1979 = First Predator's Ball, a financial conference hosted by Milken that continues to the present with over 3,500 people from over 50 nations attending.
1981 = by this time, Drexel Burnham is issuing over 60% of junk bonds in America. Milken committed to buy or sell junk bonds that Drexel Burnham had underwritten, offering liquidity and security to the market. This allowed for junk bonds to be more accurately priced and it brought new customers and their money into Milken’s junk bond market.
1982 = started the Milken Family Foundation with his brother Lowell Milken as a tax shelter.
1986 = There are more companies issuing junk bonds than investment-grade bonds. Drexel Burnham became the leading investment bank in America. Milken made $296 million ($698 million in 2020 dollars) from Drexel Burnham.
1987 = made $550 million ($1.25 billion in 2020 dollars) from Drexel Burnham.
1988 = Drexel Burnham launches an internal investigation into Milken and uncovers a shadow entity called MacPherson Partners that was engaging in suspicious financial activity. Drexel Burnham pleads guilty to 6 counts of stock parking and stock manipulation. Milken leaves Drexel Burnham to start his own firm.
1989 = indicted by Rudy Giuliani and charged with 98 counts of financial crimes which included insider trading, securities fraud, stock parking, and racketeering.
1990 = pleads guilty to 6 charges of criminal violation of securities laws and is ordered by the SEC to pay a $200 million fine plus $400 million to defrauded investors. Additional Milken has to pay a civil lawsuit settlement of $500 million to Drexel’s private investors who lost money after his crimes caused the firm to go bankrupt.
1992 = his jail sentence is reduced from 10 years to 2 years and Milken is released from prison after serving 22 months. After paying over $1 billion in fines, Milken still has a fortune of $2.5 billion ($4.6 billion in 2020 dollars).
1993 = diagnosed with prostate cancer and given 18 months to live. Milken, with the help of his money, beats the odds and his cancer has been in remission for over 25 years. Buys a vacation in Lake Tahoe for $8 million ($14.3 million in 2020 dollars) and then tears down the house and builds a new house.
1998 = paid $47 million to settle SEC claims he had violated his lifetime ban from the industry.
2009 = Milken buys his daughter an $8.75 million mansion in Beverly Hills.
2011 = bought a house in Malibu for $13.75 million.
2013 = committed another violation of his lifetime ban from the securities industry by loaning a senior executive at a financial firm $50 million.
2014 = George Washington University named its public health school after Milken because of his donation of $50 million.
2019 = bought a Beverly Hills Mansion for $19 million cash.
His Crimes
The junk bond scheme:
Milken controlled both sides of the deal, he controlled both the lenders and the borrowers.
he controlled the lenders because he controlled a huge network of federally insured Savings and Loan banks, reputable insurance companies, and junk bond funds.
so Milken would then raise money from his network of lenders to buy junk bonds from a junk company (borrower), with the promise that the junk company will use some of that capital to buy junk bonds from other junk companies (borrowers) in Milken’s junk bond empire. This inflated the demand for the junk bonds.
junk bonds yielded Milken a high commission, and Milken would also get equity in the junk companies that he had just financed with capital.
Junk bonds financed corporate raiders, and information about those takeover bids was improperly shared, creating criminal insider trading opportunities. Milken often tried to get as much as five times the maximum markup on trades that was permitted at the time. Milken’s friend and business associate, Ivan Boesky:
Ivan Boesky’s conviction of insider trading in 1986 is what lead to Milken’s downfall.
Milken had substantial business dealings with Boesky.
the first lead into Milken’s crimes was a payment of $5.3 million by Ivan Boesky to Drexel Burnham listed as a consultation fee. Boesky told the SEC this payment was for Milken’s profits form an illegal trade.
Boesky implicated milked in insider trading, stock manipulation, fraud, and stock parking.
Milken’s shadow entity, MacPherson Partners:
Drexel’s internal investigation discovered suspicious activity in one of the limited partnerships Milken had set up to allow members of his department to make their own investments called MacPherson Partners.
Members of MacPherson Partners included: Milken, other Drexel Burnham executives, a few high value Drexel Bernham customers, as well as a few managers of money market funds - all friends of Milken.
MacPherson Partners acquired several stock warrant)s for the stock of Storer Broadcasting in 1985. At the time, the powerful private equity firm KKR was in the midst of a leveraged buyout of Storer Broadcasting, and Drexel Burnham was the lead underwriter for the bonds being issued.
One of Drexel Burnham’s other clients bought several Storer Broadcasting warrants and sold them back to the high-yield bond department (controlled by Milken) at Drexel Burnham.
Drexel Burnham’s high-yield bond department in turn sold them to MacPherson Partners (also controlled by Milken).
Those warrants were then handed out by Milken to members of his family, and the money managers bought the warrants for themselves without notifying the clients of the funds they were managing.
By allowing his wealth fund management friends to buy the warrants, Milken was essentially bribing them so they would in turn help him with his junk bond manipulation.
His Trial, Conviction and Sentence
During the trial, Milken spent $3 million a month on his legal defense and an expensive public relations firm. He ultimately pleaded guilty to 3 counts of securities fraud, 2 counts of tax evasion, and 1 count of conspiracy to commit the other 5 crimes. Milken was ordered by the court to pay a fine of $200 million and to pay $400 million to defrauded investors. In a separate civil suit Milken had to pay out an additional $500 million to defrauded investors. Sentenced to 2 years for each of the 5 counts of tax and securities fraud for 10 years total. When the judge read the sentence, Milken misunderstood and thought he had received 2 years total. After his lawyer told him that he was getting 10 years, the blood drained out of Milken’s face, he took his wife into a witness waiting room, closed the door and let out a blood-curdling scream.
Clemency from President Trump
On February 18, 2020 Trump granted clemency to Milken, although his lifetime ban from the securities industry is still in effect. America’s Secretary of the Treasury, Steve Mnuchin, is longtime pals with Milken, and was the prime mover in convincing President Trump to pardon him. Mnuchin has flown on Milken’s private jet. Another fat cat advocating for Milken was Nelson Peltz, who has raised over $10 million for Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign. And don’t forget Trump's fattest fat cat, Sheldon Adelson, who also advocated on behalf of Milken. Many powerful figures in high finance came together to lobby the White House on behalf of Milken, including:
Sheldon Adelson: a major Republican donor and Trump supporter, Adelson is the chief executive officer of casino operator Las Vegas Sands Corp.
David Bahnsen: a former Morgan Stanley managing director and wealth management executive who wrote Trump in 2017 urging him to pardon Milken, calling the junk bond king’s prosecution a result of “a period of class envy run amok.”
Tom Barrack: the chief executive officer and chairman of Colony Capital Inc., Barrack is long-time Trump ally. He faced a call from an investor in November to step down in part over distractions from investigations into his political and personal activities.
Rupert Murdoch: a powerful media mogul and longtime Trump ally who put the power of News Corp. behind the president.
Maria Bartiromo: a popular anchor on Fox Business, Bartiromo has interviewed Milken as recently as 2018 (and has also interviewed Trump). The network is part of Murdoch’s media empire.
Ron Burkle: a billionaire investor who controls Yucaipa Cos., Burkle made his fortune in the grocery-store industry. Burkle, a Democratic fund-raiser famous for his friendship with Bill Clinton, made news last year when he was rumored to be interested in acquiring the Trump-friendly National Enquirer.
Elaine Chao: the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Chao was a key speaker at the Milken Global Conference last year, where she spoke about the future of mobility as well as women in government. She’s married to Republican Senate Majority Leader and top Trump ally Mitch McConnell.

Rabbi Marvin Hier: dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Hier was invited by Trump to speak at his inauguration. The rabbi in 2018 called on Trump to fight extremism in the U.S. after a shooting at a synagogue.
Ray Irani: chairman and chief executive officer of Ray Investments Ltd. and former CEO of Occidental Petroleum, Irani stepped down as a board member at Wynn Resorts Ltd. following a sexual harassment scandal involving company founder Steve Wynn.

Steven Tananbaum: the founder and chief investment officer of GoldenTree Asset Management LP, one of Wall Street’s biggest investors in distressed debt.
Ted Virtue: the chief executive officer of MidOcean Partners, the middle-market private equity and credit firm, who previously oversaw Deutsche Bank AG’s $35 billion direct investment portfolio.

Mark Weinberger: the chairman and CEO of Ernst & Young LLP, Weinberger quit Trump’s business council after the Charlottesville white supremacists rally but later dined with the president.
Conclusion
Milken likes to tell his life story as a smart guy who grew up wanting to be a scientist and lead America in the space race, but after his first year in college the Watts riots happened and it made him rethink his life. After talking with a Black man who told him that he couldn’t get access to capital because he was Black, Milken decided he would dedicate his life to making sure people with ability would have access to capital. So Milken changed from a science major to finance, went to business school, made $billions on Wall Street all so he could help Black people? There are plenty of people who in part owe their wealth to Milken and his junk bonds, and these people heap praise on Milken saying he created a lot of wealth in America and helped society tremendously. The wealth, though, went to those people heaping the praise! As for the companies Milken financed helping society, it would be difficult to argue that case. The big name companies that were financed by Milken include: CNN, Rupert Murdoch’s empire, Wynn casinos, Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital, etc. Milken was not helping society, he was helping people on Wall Street get rich. Government watchdogs are usually too weak to take on the crimes of the super rich, because the government watchdog worker still gets paid whether for not the Wall Street crook gets busted. There is no incentive to play by the rules. Milken has done a lot of philanthropic work especially in regards to cancer research with that $2.5 billion he had leftover after getting out of prison, although he hasn’t given away that much money considering his net worth in 2020 is $3.8 billion. What I find most fascinating about the Milken story is the power of his public relations machine. All the major media outlets cast Milken as a philanthropist and not a criminal. Another sign of the overwhelming influence of the wealthy on the American zeitgeist.

Relocated Production Facility: North Mesa, AZ Annual Capacity *Phase One - 150,000 grams of MPX-branded products (Currently in Operation) *Phase Two - 400,000+ grams (Scheduled for completion in calendar Q3 2018) *Phase Three - 800,000+ grams (Schedule for completion in calendar Q4 2018) New production facility will increase production capacity 2-4x: 11:31 , 25:11
“This acquisition represents a solid addition to our industry and presence in Arizona, a State that offers MPX one of the best-regulated, yet industry-supportive markets in the country,” said W. Scott Boyes, MPX’s Chairman, President and CEO. “The entities being acquired have recorded trailing 12-month revenues of US$15 million and EBITDA of approximately US$3.5 million and its results will be immediately accretive to MPX earnings. Furthermore, the acquired companies are well-managed and will allow both parties to share best practises and benefit from the ability to share purchase economies. With the pending opening of our Apache Junction dispensary, the addition of the Holistic Center, will bring the number of dispensaries managed by MPX in the greater Phoenix market to four, will more than double our cultivation capacity and will materially complement our management team in the State. Adding to our critical mass of operations, this acquisition will add to MPX’s ability to benefit from purchasing economies, spread the administrative overhead costs over a larger revenue base and provide cash flows to support additional growth.”
Beth Stavola, COO and President of MPX’s U.S. operations, adds “With our fourth dispensary opening soon in the Apache Junction suburb and our expanded concentrate production facilities coming on-stream this month, we expect to see our Arizona revenues continue to expand over the next several fiscal quarters. The Arizona program is well-regulated by AZDHS, the patient count continues to grow, the supply and cost of flower and trim for re-sale and concentrate production is excellent and, while the Phoenix area market is increasingly competitive, retail prices and margins remain attractive. This is a great state for MPX to conduct business in.”
TORONTO, April 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MPX Bioceutical Corporation (“MPX” or the “Company”) (CSE:MPX) (OTC:MPXEF) is pleased to announce that the official opening of the its newest “Health for Life” medical marijuana dispensary in the Metropolitan Phoenix area, located at the junction of E. Main and Crimson in the suburb of Apache Junction. This brings the number of dispensaries under MPX management in Arizona’s Sun Valley to four. The Crimson dispensary will meet the needs of patients in this comparatively underserviced southeast quadrant of the region by making available the full spectrum of MPX concentrates, an extensive variety of cannabis flower, and a broad selection of 3rd party, processed cannabis-infused edibles. The Company also announces that it has relocated the processing and production of MPX concentrates to a new location in North Mesa. Phase one of the build-out at this facility, now in operation, will immediately double the current production capacity of MPX-branded products in Arizona to approximately 150,000 grams annually. The second phase scheduled for completion early in calendar Q3 will increase potential production to over 400,000 grams per year and the final phase expected in calendar Q4 will result in annualized capacity increasing to a total in excess of 800,000 grams annually with a wholesale value (at current prices) of approximately US$18 million.
In Nevada, our production capacity has been limited by the availability of raw material, of biomass. And most of our product produced there has been sold 2-3 weeks in advance.

The company, which is building a facility to grow and process marijuana for medicine, sold 51 percent of its real estate and management companies to The Canadian Bioceutical Corp., for $5.1 million. The agreement was announced Tuesday. The company is in the process of building a 50,000-square-foot facility on Innovation Way, next door to Amazon and Mass Biologics, the medical research and testing facility run by the University of Massachusetts.
TORONTO, Ontario, June 15, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Canadian Bioceutical Corporation (the “Company” or “BCC”) (CSE:BCC) (OTC:CBICF) today announced that further to its press release of April 4, 2017, the Company, through its wholly-owned subsidiary CGX Life Sciences, Inc. (CGX), has completed the acquisition of a 51% interest in IMT, LLC and Fall River Developments, LLC (“FRD”), Massachusetts registered companies active in the cannabis space.
The marijuana industry has become a popular spot for Fall River. According to MPX Bioceutical Corp, construction of a 40,000 square foot marijuana cultivation/processing facility on Innovation Way in Fall River, Massachusetts is targeted to be complete in the summer of this year with cultivation beginning in the third quarter of 2018. Cannatech Medicinals, who is owned by MPX Bioceutical Corp, has been working on the facility next to Amazon. They have also commenced construction on the first of three dispensaries in Massachusetts, including one at 160 Hartwell Street in Fall River near the Applebee’s restaurant. The Hartwell Street location will get their supply from the Innovation Way facility.
CannaTech Medicinals; Hope, Heal, Health; and Northeast Alternatives will all be in the running for licenses to grow and sell marijuana for the recreational market. Recreational sales are scheduled to start July 1. CannaTech Medicinals is building a 50,000-square-foot growing facility and processing laboratory in the biopark on Innovation Way. It is also building a dispensary off Hartwell Street.
Under "RMD information", the current status of all registered marijuana dispensaries and applicants through April 27 2018 - Entries #35-37 - Cannatech Medicinals, Inc.:
*- Only two of three have "Proposed Dispensary Locations" (Fall River, Attleboro) *- No siting profile has been submitted for the third dispensary yet, invited to submit on December 12, 2017 (same date as Attleboro)

1 production facility in Gaithersburg/Montgomery Country (through Rosebud Organics/Budding Rose, Inc.) (January 8, 2018) - No square footage provided. However,
January 08, 2018 - The facility is completely built-out and when fully operational will be capable of producing 825,000 grams of MPX-branded cannabis concentrates per annum.
1 dispensary in the White Marsh suburb in Baltimore, Maryland (through LMS Wellness, Benefit LLC) (December 12, 2017) - No specific address found
I'm guessing that they will be selling MPX concentrates through these dispensaries as they have done in Arizona and Nevada once their production facility is operational. I'll wait for the press release and theMelting Point Extracts site to update before factoring that into their footprint.
MPX Bioceutical Corporation (the “Company” or “MPX”) (CSE:MPX) (OTC:MPXEF) today announced that the Company, through its indirect wholly-owned subsidiary, S8 Management, LLC (“S8 Management”), is entering into a management agreement (the “Management Agreement”) with LMS Wellness, Benefit LLC (“LMS”) which will result in MPX building and managing a full service medical cannabis dispensary in the White Marsh suburb of Baltimore, Maryland.
Photo caption: A medical marijuana company has signed a lease for the space at 4909 Fairmont Ave., next to the mural. A medical marijuana dispensary is coming to a long-dormant space on Fairmont Avenue in downtown Bethesda. Rich Greenberg, of Greenhill Capital, which owns the building, said Budding Rose LLC signed the lease for the roughly 1,900-square-foot space about six months ago. He said work is ongoing to fit out the interior to meet the dispensary’s needs, and he wasn’t sure when the shop would be ready to open.
The management agreements with Budding Rose and Rosebud will result in MPX subsidiaries now operating three medical cannabis enterprises in the State of Maryland. The first management agreement with LMS Wellness, Benefit LLC was announced on December 12, 2017. Rosebud is one of only 14 licenses issued to process cannabis derivatives in the State of Maryland. The facility is completely built-out and when fully operational will be capable of producing 825,000 grams of MPX-branded cannabis concentrates per annum. Budding Rose will operate a dispensary in a high-traffic area of downtown Bethesda, Maryland, in close proximity to the Walter Reed Military Medical Center and National Institutes of Health. Bethesda, Maryland is located within the Capital Beltway and is one of the wealthiest communities in the Capital Region. The dispensary is currently under construction and is expected to be operational in late February of this year.
GreenMart will operate a dispensary, under the “Health for Life” brand, in a high-traffic area of Baltimore, Maryland, situated off of North Point Road in the community of Colgate. The location is conveniently located near Interstate Routes 695, 95 and US Route 40 and a 15-minute drive from Baltimore’s Inner Harbour, Canton Waterfront, Federal Hill, and Fells Point. Within 2 miles of the location sits Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, a teaching hospital within the world renowned John Hopkins Health System. GreenMart has been welcomed and supported by the community leaders of Colgate. The dispensary is currently under construction and is expected to be operational in April 2018 of this year.
A lot is going on in Tahoe during the summer, so here’s a continuously updated listing of events happening around the lake! Feel free to comment below with any updates, I will periodically edit the post with new events that folks send me. See revision notes at the bottom of this post. Things not included: shows that happen every week all year around (like the Improv at Harvey’s or the Magic Fusion at The Loft), free weekly shows at venues like the CBC and Alibi Truckee (check their event calendars for those!), and children’s camps/classes. I reserve the right to not include every event folks send; a truly comprehensive list would quickly become useless with too many items on it, so I will be a little selective.

The 1970 Disappearance of Donna Lass: Was the Zodiac Killer Responsible? (New "Trail Went Cold" Minisode)
On September 6, 1970, 25-year old Donna Lass mysteriously vanished while working her shift as a nurse at the Sahara Tahoe Hotel-Casino in South Lake Tahoe, California. Donna’s last entry in her log book at her workstation was written at 1:45 AM, but the entry was unsigned and appeared to be unfinished. Her last sentence ended with the words “complains of” before the pen trailed down the page, which seemed to imply that Donna was interrupted in the middle of writing. Later that same day, Donna’s boss and landlord both received separate phone calls from an unidentified man who claimed that is she was going to be out of town because of a family emergency. Donna’s boss decided to call Donna’s mother in South Dakota and learned there was no family emergency. After Donna was reported missing, her car was found parked at her apartment complex in Stateline, Nevada. She had actually just moved into her new apartment the very same day she went to go work her last shift. On March 22, 1971, San Francisco Chronicle reporter Paul Avery received a cryptic postcard with a collage pasted on the back. It featured an advertisement for Forest Pines condominiums in Lake Tahoe with an artist’s rendering of a small village of condos near a snow-covered wooded area. There were some cut-out phrases from newspapers and magazines pasted across the ad, and these phrases included “Sierra Club”, “around in the snow”, “peek through the pines”, “pass Lake Tahoe areas” and “sought victim 12”. A hole was also punched over some pine trees located in the upper right hand corner of the ad. The postcard was postmarked “Zodiac” and featured the trademark circle cross symbol which he liked to attach to his correspondence. The specific area pictured in the ad turned out to be the Boise Cascade condominium complex in Incline Village, Nevada, which is located on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. The authorities conducted a search of this area, but found nothing. The implication seemed to be that the Zodiac killer sent the postcard and was taking credit for Donna Lass’ disappearance. The postcard would be the last correspondence from the Zodiac for nearly three years, though Donna’s sister would receive a cryptic Christmas card in 1974, which featured a picture of trees covered in snow and was signed “Best Wishes, St. Donna & Guardian of the Pines”. There is no direct evidence to tie Donna Lass to the Zodiac killer, but it’s worth noting that before she moved to Lake Tahoe, Donna worked at the Letterman Army Medical Center in the Presidio of San Francisco, only a few blocks away from where the Zodiac murdered his last confirmed victim, Paul Stine, in October 1969. An investigator named Harvey Hines has always believed the Zodiac was a career criminal named Lawrence Kane, who lived in close proximity to the Stine murder. What’s particularly interesting is that Kane and Lass both moved from San Francisco to Lake Tahoe around the same time period and Kane also worked at the Sahara Hotel-Casino, selling real estate out of an office located right down the hall from Donna’s workstation. But even if Kane abducted and murdered her, opinions are still mixed about whether he was actually the Zodiac, as the circumstances behind Lass’ disappearance do not seem to fit the Zodiac’s M.O.. I analyze this disappearance in the latest minisode of my podcast, “The Trail Went Cold": http://trailwentcold.the-back-row.com/2016/10/19/the-trail-went-cold-minisode-4-donna-lass/ Sources: http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/l/lass_donna.html http://www.zodiacciphers.com/lake-tahoe-disappearance.html http://www.zodiacciphers.com/zodiac-news/category/donna-lass http://lasvegassun.com/news/2000/nov/15/was-tahoe-disappearance-linked-to-zodiac-kille https://books.google.ca/books?id=EdBQ9jvHU80C&pg=PA224&lpg=PA224&dq=donna+lass+%22complains+of%22&source=bl&ots=Ey7Ofqg5pu&sig=4VVRfusjUpGwmkH6oG_wSdzCbrI&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj58sb_9-bPAhVCNj4KHaa-B_oQ6AEIRDAH#v=onepage&q=donna%20lass%20%22complains%20of%22&f=false
I posted a few photos from the first week of a road trip around the USA I'm doing at the moment. Some requested a write up, so here's part 1 for anyone interested!
OK, so bear with me because I'm not the greatest with formatting. But I'll try my best! As the title suggests, I posted some photos of the first week and a bit of a 6 month solo road trip I am currently undertaking around the USA and parts of Canada. They were received relatively well, and some people asked if I could do some updates along the way. So here's the first one and hopefully it can inspire some people to do similar! Why? Firstly, some background on the trip. Around about 4-5 years ago I had a pretty shitty bout with anxiety and depression. This isn't a sob story so don't feel bad for me, I'm actually quite good now. But anyway, after a few trips to a Psychologist, we both decided that it would be a good idea to set a goal that would actually get me through the days. As a university student coming to the end of my degree, starting work didn't really excite me. So after some deliberation it was decided the only thing that excited me was travel, and no matter what type of work I got upon graduation, I would do it for about 2-3 years and save everything to put towards a 6 month road trip across North America. I actually studied American History at uni, so obviously that's what drew me here. More topical to current events, I actually took a lot of inspiration from Anthony Bourdain. Sounds made up now, but RIP. Where? I started planning this trip as soon as the decision was made. So if you're wondering why things are so detailed, that's probably why. Originally a lot was focussed around things with historical significance, like American Revolutionary sites, or Civil War Memorial, etc. But I've also always had a love for nature and hiking so that's where the National/State/Regional Parks come into play. Then the love of food travel shows started to seep in. Anthony Bourdain being the main one, then a bit sillier shows like Man Vs. Food, and yes, even Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives played a role, for as much shit that Guy Fieri (deservedly) cops here. This drew me to certain cities. I had already done a 5 week trip to the USA in 2013/14 for Christmas and NYE where I hit the main touristy spots like NYC, Vegas, LA, etc. So this trip was to focus more on the small towns, national parks, and open road. When? My previous trip was over Winter, so this trip had to be warmer weathegreener pastures. Originally planning to start in June, it just so happened that a sale popped up around January for return flights from Melbourne to LAX for AU$850 leaving in May and returning in November. Too good not to pass up and not that far from what I had planned anyway. Only problem is I cut it a little short because my cousin is getting married on November 10th and I couldn't miss it, so I arrive back in Melbourne the morning of... Cutting it fine, I know. Itinerary Now to the stuff that people will probably actually care about. My general direction that I'm heading in is a loop from LA, back to LA. That was the best looking map I could make out, but it gives you the idea. The good thing is I only have things booked about a week in advance at this stage, so it's more a 'rough' itinerary than anything. I arrived in the country on May 20th and have a ticket home on November 8th. It was best to have a return ticket because otherwise those border guards will be on your back and you put yourself at risk of getting turned back at the airport. May 20th - June 8th So now to the actual good stuff, with pictures and all! Going through each place I've been, what I enjoyed there and recommendations. This will probably be the way each subsequent post will be set out, if I commit to doing them (which I have a tendency to be terrible with commitment). Los Angeles, CA. 20/05 - 21/05: OK, now when I say Los Angeles, I didn't actually spend any time in LA outside of the Airport. I got my car and took it straight to a place called Santa Paula, CA. I've been to LA before, spent about a week there, did everything touristy, and didn't particularly enjoy it. Not to say others wouldn't find it enjoyable, just not for me. Santa Paula itself isn't much to write about, but the drive from Santa Paul to Fresno had some cool parts.
Took the coastal route to Santa Barbara, up to San Luis Obispo, and on to Fresno
Santa Barbara is a pretty expensive beach town with million dollar houses in the hills looking over the coast. I didn't spend long here but I did take a stroll through Paseo Nuevo, an outdoor mall which has a pretty cool Spanish vibe to it. Bought some US$150 Ray Bans here and then subsequently left them on a tram in San Francisco days later... nice
Fresno, CA. 21/05 - 23/05: Now I know what you're thinking, "Who the hell would go to Fresno?" I say this, because basically everyone I encountered in Fresno asked me that question. I went because it was a good base to explore the Sierra National Forest. Can't say much about Fresno, though. Also, a little side note, I'm not that proud of my photos early on. Everything is shot with my iPhone and it's taking me a little time to figure out how to get the best shot. Still in the process.
Driving from Fresno to Lakeshore, my first stop was at Shaver Lake. Not sure if the depleted water levels are from the drought, but wouldn't be surprised. The drive through pine forest was pretty good to this point, but got better as you got further into the forest.
A short hike to Rancheria Fall was definitely the highlight of the day. It started raining on me whilst walking to the falls, but by the time I was there it was hard to tell if it was rain or spray from the falls.
Santa Cruz, CA. 23/05 - 26/05: Originally, I wanted to stay in Monterey for this portion. However, everything was either way too expensive or booked out, so I settled for Santa Cruz. Or more specifically, Felton, which is out the back of Santa Cruz. I was happy with the decision.
I was staying right near Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, which had 100+ year old Redwoods everywhere and also a cool floor of clovers Funny story about the park, its namesake was actually an industrialist who cut down the majority of the original redwoods for profit. After he died the govt wanted to buy the land to preserve the forest, so the family agreed on condition it was named after him. A preservation park named after a guy who did the complete opposite
Big Sur is where it's at. The coast drive is phenomenal. I believe there were landslides recently so I could only really make it to Pfeiffer-Big Sur State Park, but that was enough
Sausalito/San Francisco, CA. 26/05 - 29/05: I stayed in a hostel across the Golden Gate Bridge which I believe fell under Sausalito, but was in the Marin Headlands. I'd been to San Francisco previously so didn't feel the need to spend all my time in the city. I would park on the outskirts and catch the BART to downtown.
I'm a big fan of Sausalito. Something about the town itself has a really nice vibe to it and they have fantastic views back on the city. I had a nice dinner at Poggio Trattoria, which was probably a bit upscale for me but was super nice. Also enjoyed a beer at No Name Bar with a local who had retired and filled in as a bar tender. We watched one of the Golden State finals, good fun.
Onto the city itself. Most of the things I did were touristy. If you're not into crowds I would stay away from Pier 39. That was in May, remember. I can only imagine what July/August would be like. But it was pretty cool to see the sea lions at the pier.
I made my way up Coit Tower, which had some pretty amazing views of the city. Again, though, if lines aren't your thing I'd recommend not coming here. Probably waited around 40 mins to get up there for a total of 5 mins. I was fine with it, but can imagine not everyone would be.
I originally wanted to see a San Francisco Giants Baseball game, however they weren't playing. So I went across to Oakland to see the Athletics play. I don't know much about Baseball, but I'm an A's fan now.
And of course, how could I forget the good old Golden Gate Bridge?!. It might just be a bridge, but it is pretty incredible close up. Also the little spot that GIF is from is a nice viewing platform away from the crowds.
Lake Tahoe, CA. 29/05 - 31/05: I didn't know how I was going to like Lake Tahoe, because having Nevada there and casinos around I thought it might be a little much for me. Can confirm, it's a lovely spot that far exceeded expectations.
The drive in from San Francisco alone was enough to get me excited for Lake Tahoe
Emerald Bay has to be at the top of your list if you are going to Lake Tahoe. From above or below, you really can't go wrong.
Driving from Lake Tahoe to Redding I went the scenic route and stopped at Truckee, CA. It allowed me to take the lovely drive along the river out, and then through the rest of Tahoe National Forest as well. In Truckee I ate at Coffee And, which was a classic little diner with a lovely waitress and homestyle food. Exactly what I want in a small American town.
Also stopped briefly at Lake Spaulding, which was a cute little lake on the way.
Redding, CA. 31/05 - 2/06: Another baffler for some people who didn't understand why I would go to Redding. This was my gateway into Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Also was an interesting little town with the giant Bethel Church) centred here.
Would highly recommend doing the Black Butte Trail near Mt Shasta. Has some incredible views of Mt Shasta itself and although a pretty strenuous hike uphill, it involves some cool rock scrambling, if that's your thing. Despite all this, the highlight of basically my life so far was making friends with this guy. He was even nice enough to pose for me.
On the drive from Redding into Oregon, I passed Mt Shasta again around Dunsmuir and got some nice views along the way
Crater Lake National Park, OR. 2/06 - 5/06: Based myself about 20 miles outside of Ashland, OR whilst exploring Crater Lake National Park. Stayed with this total hippie family at an Airbnb which turned out to be on a Weed Farm. I'd forgotten that it was legal in Oregon. But they were the best.
I was surprised to hear from a lot of people local to the area that they hadn't made it to Crater Lake yet. They need to get there, NOW. It's hard to describe or even capture in pictures the beauty of the lake. The deepest lake in the USA, and also has 0 tributaries, meaning that it has just been filled by rain and snow over millions of years. I hiked Garfield Peak, which still had some snow on it and was technically closed, but should open soon.
The equally as beautiful, but in a different way, Umpqua National Forest neighbours Crater Lake National Park and has some incredible waterfalls to visit. Clearwater Falls, Whitehorse Falls, Watson Falls, and my favourite, Toketee Falls. I missed out on the Umpqua Hot Springs, which are supposed to be cool
Eugene, OR. 5/06 - 7/06: Back when I was at university, I seriously considered transferring to the University of Oregon for a year. I kinda regret not doing it, especially after being in Eugene and seeing the town/campus. I didn't take a lot of photos, mostly just walked around and took it all in.
Firstly, I would recommend checking out the University of Oregon campus. I've never seen a place be so passionate about their college, although I think that's a normal thing for a college town. Check out Hayward Field if you get there before they tear it down. An Olympic runner called Steve "Pre" Prefontaine went to the U of O and he's pretty famous around there. They call themselves Tracktown, USA because of their Track & Field program at the university
Other than going up Skinner Butte, where I got a nice view of the town, I got some beers at Beer Garden. They had a huge selection of different beers/ciders and they also had a beer garden (go figure) that was surrounded by food trucks. Also got pizza at Track Town Pizza, which I would recommend just for the fact that it seemed like the entirety of Hayward Field went there after an NCAA meet during the day
Portland, OR. 7/06 - 9/06: Currently in Portland and to be honest I haven't actually checked out the city itself at all. I'm planning to on my way out tomorrow, so here's what I've done so far anyway.
The Colombia River Gorge is an incredible drive only minutes from Portland itself that I would recommend to anybody. Unfortunately for me, the Eagle Creek fire that went through last year is still showing its effects and therefore a lot of the trails I wanted to hike were closed. Despite this, the drive itself and the stops along the way were still beautiful
The places I stopped at included Vista House, Latourell Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Multnomah Falls. Multnomah is probably the most popular stop along the way, and I can say that because I tried to go in the morning and the car park was closed because it was full. So I had to come back later in the afternoon
I spent some time in Hood River, which was a cute little town that had a lot to offer and was a good place to stop and turn back. I had lunch at Double Mountain Brewery, which I'd recommend. There's micro-breweries galore though all across Oregon, so feel free to try the like 3 others just in this small town
Summary If anyone makes it this far, I bloody salute you. I can say already though that the last 2 and a bit weeks have been amongst the best of my life. From here, I head to Seattle tomorrow, before crossing into Canada and doing the Rockies. I'll try to make these a bit more regularly so it's not a huge chunk of writing that is terribly written and hard to read. If anyone has any questions or wants to know more, please reach out! I want to help in any way I can if you're planning a similar trip or a trip to an area I am going/have been. Cheers!

Harry and his wife Mollie ran a liquor store and had been preparing to close their shop for the night when an assailant(s) robbed the store and then shot the couple dead. Police later informed the victims’ family that serial killers Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Toole confessed to the murders. However, some of the family doubted the validity of these claims due to some glaring inconsistencies in the case. The case is personal to one Reddit contributor Bamont because his grandmother was one of the victims of this horrible crime. What happened on that night? (UPDATE:) Some commenter's from the Unresolved Mysteries community offered their assistance in helping Bamont. In particular, Hotblueglue researched the case and found...

The couple had hired their neighbor, Robert Jason Owens, as a contractor to do some work in their home. "Owens robbed, assaulted and threatened the couple with weapons before killing them." He would later admit to dismembering their bodies to conceal evidence (CBS News). Robert J. Owens is still a person of interest in the disappearance of Zebb Quinn (UPDATE:) Robert Owens has accepted a plea deal in the murders of JT Codd and Cristie, and...Will this provide any new information on Zebb?
March 17 - July 11, 2016 - Maryvale (Phoenix) Serial Shooter - "an unidentified serial killer who has been linked to nine separate shootings resulting in seven deaths and two injuries across Phoenix, Arizona (US) in 2016, mainly in the Maryvale neighborhood" (Wikipedia). The shooter's attacks seem to be random, and he targets people who are walking outside or standing/sitting by their homes or cars. Who is the killer? (UPDATE:) Person of interest identified in this... The post originally stated that the Phoenix Serial Shooter was arrested; however, at this time he had only been publically identified by law enforcement.Maryvale Serial Shooter

June 25, 1968 - Robinson Family Murders (Good Hart murders) - This was the mass murder of a family who was shot and killed in their vacation cottage in Good Hart, Michigan (US). The home belonged to a prominent magazine publisher in Detroit, Richard and Shirley Robinson and their four children. In July of that year, a caretaker for the neighborhood had been alerted to an odor coming from that area. The neighbors had been told that the Robinsons would be out of town, so no one seemed alarmed and assumed the smell was a dead animal. However, inside the home, the caretaker found the decomposing bodies of the entire family. The 30 most astounding moments in Rep. Duncan Hunter's 47-page indictment
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 81%. (I'm a bot)
Holy crap! In a seven-year period, the Hunters allegedly overdrew their bank account more than 1,000 times! Also, according to the indictment, Hunter had less than $1,000 in reportable assets listed on his personal financial disclosure forms for each year between 2009 and 2016. "Duncan Hunter facilitated the theft of campaign funds by ignoring his campaign staff's multiple warnings about Margaret's improper use of campaign funds, accusing campaign staff of disloyalty by 'trying to create some kind of paper trail on me' when they raised concerns about improper spending, and continually refusing to remove her access to campaign funds." "On or about January 25, 2010, in Incline Village, Nevada, Duncan Hunter spent $1,008.72 in campaign funds at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino for food, drinks, and three nights lodging during a personal ski trip with Individual 14. On this day, the Hunter family bank account had a negative balance and incurred six separate insufficient funds fees. Also on this same day, Duncan Hunter withdrew $20 from his personal bank account, leaving a balance of $15.02.". "On or about December 22, 2010, after the Treasurer again warned the Hunters that 'campaign funds may not be used for a leisure outing' even if campaign business is occasionally discussed, Margaret Hunter told the Treasurer that she refused to provide the names of individuals she allegedly took out for meals with campaign funds because 'that's silly.'". "On or about February 8 and 16, 2012, the Hunters spent $306.80 in campaign funds at United Airlines for additional charges related to a ticket for Margaret's mother to fly from San Diego to Chicago. In response to whether the charge was campaign related, Duncan Hunter told his Treasurer: 'Yes sir.'". "On or about October 30, 2012, following an article in the San Diego Reader publicizing Margaret's salary and various expense reimbursements, Duncan Hunter relieved her of her formal duties with the campaign. Although the campaign was in dire financial condition, and had just canceled a pre-election mailer due to insufficient funds, Duncan Hunter continued to pay Margaret Hunter a salary from campaign funds and allowed her to keep her campaign credit card."

I have lived in Reno Nevada for 8 years all together we lived here from 2002 to 2006 and currently have lived here from 2014 to currently. Things in Reno have changed it is a growing community city and with towns near by like Fernley, Sparks, Carson City, Sun Valley, Lemon Valley, Verdi, and Lake Tahoe there are a lot of different adventures a person could do in and around the area. Reno has made some changes the RENO arch sign recently updated in the down town area, and lots of new building has taken and changed a few things in and around the Reno area. If your coming to visit here are my top 10 places to visit and things to do in Reno Nevada. THE OUTLAW MICHEAL TOMSIK TOP 10 PLACES AND THINGS TO DO IN AND AROUND RENO NEVADA: #10) Junkee Clothing and Exchange located on 960 South Virginia Street. This store has a lot of consignments in it you can literally find anything from A to Z in it and also is a great place to shop for clothing. The parking lot is a bit small however but this is a fun store to visit or shop at. #9) The Basement located at 50 South Virginia Street. This was the old US Post Office it was remolded and a company called ELM Street took over the top part of the old Post Office. However if you look hard you will find the signs for The Basement. In the bottom part of the old Post Office it has some unique stores and shops. #8) Grand Sierra Resorts Casino located at 2500 East 2nd Street. Out of all the casinos in Reno area in my option this is the best one by far. This casino has a lot to offer an outside driving range into a huge man made pond, go carts and a big swing ride. Recently the casino remodeled the pool and is adding an indoor ice arena along with bowling alley, movie theater, fun center, and a shopping mall. Lots of restaurants, night club, sports wagering and gambling available as well.Easy accesses of I-80 and 395 makes the location great as well. Also the Truckee River runs along the back side of the property and it has a large RV park. #7) Scheels Sports Store located at 1200 Scheels Road in the Legend Shopping Mall. This store is awesome it has 2 levels and is full of sports stuff. It has an indoor Ferris Wheel, fresh and salt water fish tanks. A restaurant, and plenty of other fun stuff to play with and view. On the second floor it has a history by use of our Presidents whom all talk and move. This is a must see store. #6) Sparks Marina located at 300 Howard Drive. The marina is awesome with a 77 acre lake that has a walkway all the way around it. There is a dog park, fishing, boating, and events held at the marina. There are several local restaurants, Legends Mall, casinos that are near by. Also there is an RV park near the marina as well. It is great for a family day out. #5) National Auto Museum located at 10 Lake Street. If you love cars and history you will love this place. I had a great time walking through looking at all the old cars. #4) Nevada State Train Museum located at 2180 South Carson Street. If you have a love for trains this is for you. They also offer a train ride during certain times of the year. #3) Sierra Safari Zoo located at 12200 North Virginia Street. Since 1989 this very small zoo has operated under the radar of many people. The kids will love it however. #2) Virginia City located in the mountains just outside of Reno Nevada and Carson City. This city has a long history in Nevada. You will find tons of shopping, food, history and events being held. This is a nice drive through the mountains and is great place for a day out. #1) Lake Tahoe located in the mountains between Carson City and the California Border. Lake Tahoe is great in the summer or winter with ski resorts, casinos, shopping, boating, and other events held around the lake. There is RV and camp grounds, and is a very popular spot for locals and tourist alike.
American Indian tribe says feds should return Tahoe resort land to 'original owners'
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 90%. (I'm a bot)
Jason Bean/RGJ. An American Indian tribe with deep roots in the Lake Tahoe basin is seeking to reclaim land that's part of a Nevada resort area. The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California wants to ask Congress for nearly 375 acres of federal land in Incline Village. Map: The blue-colored parcels represent the land being claimed by the Washoe Tribe. It owns a travel plaza and casino in Gardnerville and operates Meeks Bay Resort on Forest Service land at Lake Tahoe. At the time, then-Washoe chairman Brian Wallace noted the Washoe had been "Forcibly removed" and that the land's return provided "a sanctuary and a place of solitude where they can go for important tribal ceremonies and cultural practices, many of which involve Lake Tahoe itself, the core of the Washoe's historic homeland and culture." The assistant county manager, said there's nothing to prevent Congress from transferring the land to the Washoe, but it can't give the property to both IVGID and the tribe.

It was great. Heath was an enormously talented actor and a genuinely nice guy, it was a real pleasure. He was just always very big brotherly, looking out for all the younger guys, really had a wild and kind of enthusiasm for the work. (Emile)
No, I think that one of the main things you learn really quick in film acting is how to deal with people watching, just like if you're doing a play and you have to hug someone, you have hundreds of people gawking.
No, not nervous. Part of the job. Real excited though. Haven't really gotten into it just yet, so I don't have too much to report, but looking forward to all the craziness to come. (Emile)
I only worked on that movie for like a week and didn't have the greatest time. (Stephen) Yeah, I knew before The Girl Next Door. I knew when we worked on The Emperor's Club together because he was great on that as well. A very nice talented young man. (Emile) Did you know i was on that film as well? (Stephen)
It was a real privilege to get to portray someone who has affected people's lives in sometimes big ways, it's just a privilege. I can't take credit for it though, it's based on a really extraordinary person. (Emile)
It was great. They were so much fun to work with, they are so creative, they are such visionaries, I was a huge fan of Speed Racer growing up as a kid. It was a challenging film to make because of all the green screen and it was a challenging film to release and market because it was so different, and we didn't get to make any sequels, but it's an interesting, odd film that I am happy to be a part of.
During The Motel Life shooting, in some very specific motels, we had to keep cutting takes because there was so much screaming and noise coming from the other motel rooms! People were getting arrested… (Stephen)
Ranting and raving, as they got hauled out with their hands cuffed behind their backs (Emile)
It was like an episode of BREAKING BAD on crack. But we love Reno. (Stephen)
Most people don't realize that a lot of times they watch the movies and it seems really action packed, but if you actually go on a movie set, they are usually really really boring and nothing happens, there is a lot of waiting around. People can't believe how boring it is when they actually get on a movie set and they want to leave right away. (Emile)
There's a lot of time that goes into making a movie. I think the perception is a little different, they don't realize how much time it entails. Movie sets are really boring usually and hopefully it all comes together in the end. You're basically shooting pieces all the time. I hate sitting around and waiting to go. (Stephen)
They are both incredible, great family, just have got talent running through the water over there in their house. I know Elle better because i worked more closely with her, but I loved meeting with Dakota and her voice would make me think of Elle, but Emile really worked more closely with Dakota than I did. They are both fantastic, really nice parents, got to know the family well between the movies. Can't say enough about them in a good way. (Stephen)
I had chicken splatter all over me, I was exhausted, McConaughey was trying to get me, and I ended up getting the shit beaten out of me. I felt used and very exhausted at the end. (Emile)
It was great. John Waters is a true original, and a great person, funny, just made me laugh every day on the set. He drives a modern green Buick sedan to work every day and dresses up really fancy, like really fancy suits. He has a great infrastructure of a family that he's worked with for all these years in Baltimore, it's like his camp. There are 2 directors from Baltimore: John Waters and Barry Levinson. They couldn't be more different, but they are legends in Baltimore. The best thing to do with John Water is watch the Oscars. One time I had to watch the Oscars with him before we had to go to the Vanity Fair party afterwards, and he was making fun of everybody and we had so much fun. "What is she wearing? a helicopter on her head?" It was great. We had little cocktail wieners while we watched the Oscars. I think I made them. I make a good cocktail wiener and a quiche lorraine. (Stephen)
He was nice, but he was BLADE, he was in the role, you know? The guy did his press in FULL WARDROBE. He did Letterman as Blade. With the sword. (STephen) We did these parties for the movie and he dressed as Blade at every movie party around the United States. I did Letterman the week after he was on, and David was like "you didn't come in costume like your costar?" (Stephen)
I just made him my own character but I never met him. I was not playing a real-life person, however, he was inspired by a real life person but I was playing Johnny Truelove. (Emile)
I think for everyone their big break is just being born. Because the odds of not being born, the odds are against you in terms of evolution. If you are the winning sperm in the race, you are in a good position from the get-go. (Emile)
I thought I'd really made it as an actor when I was sitting next to Jack Nicholson waiting to go on set and I looked at him and I was like "damn, this is cool" just because he was one of my faves, I had done a bunco of movies before then but I thought that was cool. (Stephen)
We went out, you know, we saw all of Reno pretty much. We also shot in other places, Carson City … we loved it, the bars, the casinos, the motels, the people. (Stephen)
Some of the restaurants were really nice, the people were really friendly in Reno, it's a great place and we are proud to have worked there and we hope the people of the city actually like the movie. (Emile)
As a little kid, I wanted to be in Ender's Game because that was one of my have books as a kid. But I want to see Ender's Game later today, not to plug another movie. I think Stephen and I could star in 50 Shades of Gray and take turns playing Christian Grey. I have not actually read those books though, but a girl described some of the stuff in those books, it sounded pretty graphic. I can't believe women are into all that crazy stuff. (Emile)
He reads a lot more books than I do. And he's super into the internet (Stephen)
I think I would an astrophysicist. I might not be a working astrophysicist, but I would call myself an astrophysicist. (Emile)
I would probably want to do something like be a hotel owner. Or needlepoint quilts, or maybe open a restaurant. Margarita bar. Or a skydiving instructor (Stephen)
I wonder if I could be a land bound skydiving instructor? (Emile)
I always like watching that movie HEAT, it's always on TV. Some movies you can watch over and over. And I was watching Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom, and I forgot River Phoenix was in that, he was pretty good too. (Stephen)
He actually looks like Harrison Ford! I love Indiana Jones, Star Wars... (Emile)
Godfather 1 & 2 I can always watch, SCARFACE too. Chevy Chase in VACATION. (Stephen)
The Twilight Movies are a guilty pleasure for me. (Emile)
I basically just did the video! And thank you for thinking I'm cute. I just remember showing up and shooting it for a couple of hours. Alicia Silverstone was a big deal at that time, because it was right after Clueless, so there was a big hoopla around her, Aerosmith was rocking' back then, so it was just one of those things where they called nme and the next thing I knew I was shooting that video. (Stephen)
I like playing the piano myself, and I also like shopping and driving. (Stephen)
I am an avid movie watcher, I like going to see all the new movies. I've also kind of gotten into knitting recently, and needlepoint. I'm working my way up to a quilt. (Emile)
I'm currently in production on the sequel, and we are shooting it in Arizona… no, but there was a sequel. I wasn't in it. And probably not, but people seem to remember that movie. Tarantino always comes up to me and says "I love THE GATE man!!" They found me at my school and next thing I knew I was shipped up to Canada and they wanted me to scream at these little monsters, and we were the movie that beat ISHTAR. (Stephen)
I didn't know who Willy was before, but he's a very talented dude. I've now met him and know that he's a talented musician and I am excited they are re-releasing his novel so that more people can check out the Motel Life. And he's a helluva guy. (Stephen)
I didn't really know either, I had heard about the novel and heard it was really good but hadn't had the chance to read it. But he is a quality novelist and musician as well. I did read the book and really appreciated it. (Emile)
I think it's a mixture of the 2 for a lot of people, and depending on your point of view on it, I think it goes both ways. There's a lot of things that are really great about him and a lot to learn, but obviously there's a lot you want to avoid from his behavior as well. (Emile)
It was a challenge like any other job but I enjoyed getting to explore the character. It was a great script written by Dustin Lance Black. He captured the nuances of the character and the era and he ended up getting the credit for it, so all the credit goes to him. (Emile)
Great question! I asked that question to Tarsem and he said "Speak the way you want" so everybody spoke in their own dialect. And I'm glad you liked it. (Stephen)
We're actually talking about taking "Somewhere" on a dinner theater tour when she finishes school… just kidding. But I would love to work with Elle again, she is taller than me now so I would need some boots. She's an amazing girl, an amazing actress, and I love her as a person and as my movie daughter and a friend, and I would love to work with her again. I would need an apple box to stand next to her. (STephen)
No. It's a character Sofia created that is a blend of a lot of different people but is ultimately a fictional character named Johnny. Johnny Knoxville huh? Sofia just created the character just like Bill Murray who is playing an actor in Lost in Translation but it's not really him. There's a lot of personal stuff in that movie that she has in there, but it's not based on Johnny Knoxville. (Stephen)
We were hoping that we would get Academy Award nominations and AFI awards but we all knew we were kidding ourselves. We knew it would be relegated to 'teen sex comedy.' (Stephen)
We loved it! We loved working in Nevada, it's a great place, I took a little excursion to Tahoe. We loved Lake Tahoe, we loved the trees and the landscape, the sunsets and the weather was beautiful. (Emile)
Good Buddy! Excited for you to see the movie as well. Looking forward to you seeing the movie with your cousin, and then going out and playing miniature golf afterwards. (Emile)
Heath was a great, greatly dedicated actor who constantly was pushing himself and exploring and trying new things. But he also was not an overly dedicated actor either, he was able to drop the character and have a beer with his buddies as well. (Emile)
Thank you very much, we appreciate you watching our movies, even the smaller ones, and this (The Motel Life) is one of the smaller ones so you should probably check it out. (Emile)
